Kansas 26th state to ban texting while driving
Kansas motorists have until January 1, 2011 to stop texting while driving. After that date, such practice will be illegal.
Gov. Mark Parkinson signed at the end of May a bill that will prohibit all drivers from reading, receiving, and sending text messages or emails in a moving vehicle.
“As we head into Memorial Day weekend and the summer, one of the busiest driving times for Kansans, I am please to sign this legislation that will encourage more aware drivers and save Kansas lives,” said in a statement Gov. Parkinson.
For the next few months, law enforcement officers will only issue a warning to drivers who are pulled over for texting while driving. Once the law is effective, violators will receive a fine of $60.
