20 year-old man jailed for texting while driving
Stephen Judd from Dracut, MA, should only have received a $100 fine because he was texting while driving on the roads of New Hampshire. Unfortunately for him, I also received jail time.
According to reports, the police saw Judd typing a message on his cell phone at steering wheel level while driving through Pelham, New Hampshire. When pulled over, he reportedly admitted that he was texting while driving and that he knew such practice was illegal in the state. When the police officer checked his record, it showed that Judd’s license had been suspended. He was therefore arrested.
A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said it was difficult to determine if Judd was the first person charged under New Hampshire’s texting-while-driving law, which took effect Jan. 1. But chances are that he is the only one to be arrested for texting while driving.
